What is the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP)?

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is an evidence-based listening therapy designed to reduce sound sensitivities and improve auditory processing, behavioral state regulation, and social engagement behaviors. The intervention involves listening to five-hours of specially filtered music through headphones alongside a provider, in-person or remotely. Your provider will work with you to design a listening program that best meets your needs.

How does the SSP work?

The SSP is based on Polyvagal Theory developed by world-renowned researcher, Dr. Stephen Porges. Polyvagal Theory focuses on what is happening in the body and the nervous system, and explains how our sense of safety, danger or life-threat can impact our behavior. As a practical application of Polyvagal Theory, the SSP acts as a non-invasive, acoustic vagal nerve stimulator, helping to re-tune the nervous system to better support connection, collaboration and resilience.

Who may benefit from the SSP?

Suitable for children and adults, the SSP has demonstrated benefits for individuals with trauma, anxiety, sensory processing differences and more.

How much does the SSP Cost?

The SSP program cost is $540 and includes the following:

  • A personalized map of your Autonomic Nervous System to learn how your body responds to stress and challenges.

  • Psychoeducation on Polyvagal Theory to learn how to shift your body back to a state of calm and create a greater sense of wellbeing.

  • An individualized listening plan designed to meet your regulation needs and goals.

  • Guidance on setting up your listening environment.

  • Access to the 5-hour Core playlist protocol.
